I am asking this of all L/O candidates:

How much will you spend on your campaign (include every expenditure)?

What is the source of this finance?

Please provide a breakdown of expenditure under the following headings:
1. posters
2. leaflets
3. press advertising
4. canvasser expenses
5. travel and subsistence
6. office and staff
7. cost of staff seconded from your own or a friends business but not paid for by you
8. other expenses.

My reasoning is that I believe there should be an expenditure cap. If we, as a country, fail to impose a cap, there is the prospect that big money will become a norm in the election process.

Thank you.

I suppose it says something when there is no topic among all those listed on this website which accurately covers my question. The correct topic would be cronyism and corruption. The question is : What specific legislation would you propose in the Dail to curb the impact of cronyism and the related corruption it engenders in public life, particularly among politicians, bankers, and builders ?

A chara,

Cén chaoi ina bhfuil tú? Tá mise i mo chonaí sa dáilcheantar ina bhfuil tusa ag seasamh. Is duine óg mé, is vóta mé agus is Gaeilgeoir brodúil mé. Táimse an-buartha faoin bpolasaí atá ar bun ag Fine Gael maidir leis an nGaeilge sa chúrsa Ardteiste. Tá Enda Kenny ag iarraidh fáil réidh leis an nGaeilge mar abhár éigeantach mar cheapann sé go réiteóidh é seo fadhb na Gaeilge sa chóras oideachais. Ach i ndáiríre, is polasaí leisciúil, sotalach atá ann a chaitheann anuas ar ár teanga agus ar Ghaeilgeoirí na tíre. Ní bhaineann an fhadhb leis an riachtanachas, baineann an fhadhb leis an gcaoi ina múintear an teanga agus leis an gcuraclam. Níl ciall ar bith sa pholasaí seo, ní dhéanfaidh sé ach dochar do-chúlaithe dár dteanga.

Má thoghtar thú, an dtacóidh tú leis an nGaeilge a choinneáil mar chroí-abhár don Ardteist?

Is mise,
__________

A chara,

I live in your constituency. I am a young person, I am proud Irish speaker and I am a vote. I am, along with many others, very concerned about Fine Gael´s policy regarding Irish in the Leaving Certificate syllablus. Enda Kenny has released his plans to remove Irish as a compulsory subject from the Leaving Cert, a plan which he seems to think will solve the Irish language problem in the education system. But in all seriousness, when the policy is considered properly, it is a hugely arrogant concept that insults our language and its speakers. The problem lies not with the fact that Irish is a compulsory subject but in its teaching and curriculum. This policy makes absolutley no sense and if implemented, will do irreversable damage to our language.

If you are elected, will you support keeping Irish as a core Leaving Certificate subject?

Is mise,

Cowen expresses concern over Fine Gael’s plans for teaching Irish

Offaly Fianna Fáil candidate, Councillor Barry Cowen has expressed his concern about Fine Gael’s plans for the teaching of Irish saying it would lead to the extinction of the language.

"I was horrified to hear Enda Kenny say that he would abolish the teaching of the Irish language as a core subject for the Leaving Certificate. This would be hugely damaging to the language and lead to the extinction of the language.”

"I would be the first to admit that we need to continue to reform the way in which the language is taught, but the growth of Gaelscoileana all over the country and here in Offaly indicates the pride that people have in their language.”

"For our national language to flourish and grow we must give it every encouragement. Downgrading the language by making it optional at Leaving Certificate is a retrograde step.”

"All expert opinion points to the importance of a language being compulsory if it is to survive in the long term.”

"Fianna Fáil have a plan for the Irish language and our Twenty Year Strategy is a comprehensive and detailed roadmap for the development of the language. The Strategy has a range of new measures including how Irish is taught and hopes to increase the number of daily Irish speakers to 250,000 by 2030.”

"I am so disappointed that despite Fine Gael originally supported our Strategy but now their leader is withdrawing that support by pledging to abolish the teaching of Irish as a subject for the Leaving Cert,” concluded Councillor Cowen.
