A chara,

Cén chaoi ina bhfuil tú? Tá mise i mo chonaí sa dáilcheantar ina bhfuil tusa ag seasamh. Is duine óg mé, is vóta mé agus is Gaeilgeoir brodúil mé. Táimse an-buartha faoin bpolasaí atá ar bun ag Fine Gael maidir leis an nGaeilge sa chúrsa Ardteiste. Tá Enda Kenny ag iarraidh fáil réidh leis an nGaeilge mar abhár éigeantach mar cheapann sé go réiteóidh é seo fadhb na Gaeilge sa chóras oideachais. Ach i ndáiríre, is polasaí leisciúil, sotalach atá ann a chaitheann anuas ar ár teanga agus ar Ghaeilgeoirí na tíre. Ní bhaineann an fhadhb leis an riachtanachas, baineann an fhadhb leis an gcaoi ina múintear an teanga agus leis an gcuraclam. Níl ciall ar bith sa pholasaí seo, ní dhéanfaidh sé ach dochar do-chúlaithe dár dteanga.

Má thoghtar thú, an dtacóidh tú leis an nGaeilge a choinneáil mar chroí-abhár don Ardteist?

Is mise,

A chara,

I live in your constituency. I am a young person, I am proud Irish speaker and I am a vote. I am, along with many others, very concerned about Fine Gael´s policy regarding Irish in the Leaving Certificate syllablus. Enda Kenny has released his plans to remove Irish as a compulsory subject from the Leaving Cert, a plan which he seems to think will solve the Irish language problem in the education system. But in all seriousness, when the policy is considered properly, it is a hugely arrogant concept that insults our language and its speakers. The problem lies not with the fact that Irish is a compulsory subject but in its teaching and curriculum. This policy makes absolutley no sense and if implemented, will do irreversable damage to our language.

If you are elected, will you support keeping Irish as a core Leaving Certificate subject?

Is mise,

Hello Terence,

what is your attitude to Dublin Bus indicating that it is to stop the 27X service? If Dublin Bus does this would you support a private bus company being allowed take over this service?

Dear Michael

I have contacted Ray Coyne in Dublin Bus and voiced my objection to any plans proposed to discontinue the 27x bus. I have also lodged an objection to their proposal to change the route of the 27 which will no longer stop outside Clare Hall Shopping Centre. I am calling on all my Constituents to email [email protected] and lodge their comments about all proposed changes to the bus routes in Dublin North East. The closing date is February 25th.

Best Regards

I feel that the drug war is failing and that radical alternatives need to be considered including decriminalisation. I feel that drugs and drug related harm should be considered as health issues rather than criminal issues.

What steps would you take to reduce drug related problems, both for individuals who use drugs and for society as a whole in terms of crime etc?

You will get a vote but how high up the list depends on your answers to the following. I would like direct short answer, waffle will move you down the list.

My long winded questions are:
  • What is your view on consultants working in both private and public medicine simultaneously?
  • Where do you stand on the C case (the lady with cancer who had to travel to England to terminate a pregnancy?.
  • Where do you stand on gay marriage?
  • How many TDs do you think we should have in the Dail?

Regards

Terence Flanagan
Dear

Thank you for your email.

Fine Gael have a plan to reform the Health Service, called Faircare which will end the two tier system. It will provide universal health care for every citizen. Please log onto www.FineGael.ie to view the policy.

Fine Gael is opposed to abortion. In relation to the European Court of Human Rights, who have said that Ireland needs to clarify the existing law. So, for example, they say there needs to be a clear set of guidelines that doctors can use in emergency situations to know whether a termination is permissible or not. They say that at the moment an identical woman in identical circumstances could be treated differently by two different hospitals, with potentially tragic consequences.

To address this, Fine Gael will establish an all-party Oireachtas Committee, with access to medical and legal expertise, to consider the implications of the recent European Court ruling on the existing law and to make recommendations. Such a process would, we believe, be the best way of examining the issue in a way that respects the range of sincerely-held views on this matter.

Fine Gael support Civil Partnership but are opposed to gay marriage.

I think that the number of TD´s needs to cut initially by 20, which will leave 146 representing the people of Ireland. Further cuts in the number of TDs should then be examined.

Terence,

I am a public servant and am very concerned about having my pay cut again and the 30,000 "voluntary redundancies" proposed by FG. I have no doubt you will find it impossible to get 30,000 voluntary redundancies. If you can´t get voluntary redundancies, would you then resort to compulsory redundancies?

Do you support the Croke Park agreement and what will FG do to protect the already diminished pay of public servants, would you cut it again?

Finally, where do FG stand on the whole issue of our natural resources being more or less given away to Shell? As Ray Burke & Bertie Ahern were involved in this deal, surely that alone is enough to warrant further investigation. With oil currently at $100 a barrel, there is a loss of €715 billion to the Irish exchequer.

Regards,
