My priority objective for Cork South West are

  • There should be more on shore fish processing in Cork South West. Presently 80% of white fish goes out in trucks from Castletownbere.
  • Support of agri-food business including the expansion of Gobeen Cheese.
  • Support the development of walking routes and other tourist related activities through Mizen Vision.

In relation to tourism, I am one of the only public representatives to become a shareholder in the Cork-Swanses Ferry and I helped to secure €1 million for this project over teh last 18 months.

I believe that we should support small businesses which employ 2/3 people and that more finance should be available through the lending institutions.

There should be a moritorium on rates to enable people starting business to get off the ground and ease the burden on those already in business.

If elected, I will continue to work to have the above issues become a reality.

Regards,

Denis
