Dan,

Where does the money go for plastic shopping bags and how is that money spent?

Why did the Green party not shout stop to bailing out Anglo Irish Bank?

Hi ,

The plastic bag levy goes into an environmental fund that is ring fenced for environmental projects.

If people insist on buying plastic bags the money goes to offset the damage the bags cause.

Hi ,

In relation to Anglo Irish Bank; we were faced with a total collapse of the Irish banking sector on the day in question, we had no option but to act quickly, we had two choices; to take a wild guess on what would be the best course of action, or to rely on the advice of central bank experts.

The advice given to government on the day was given in good faith; those advising the government were relying on factual information coming from top bankers who many considered ‘pillars of society’ at the time. The fact that decisions were made based on lies is further proof that Green Party policies regarding political reform, including ending the practice of donations to politicians from bankers, developers, and other vested interests need to be brought into play as soon as possible.

In all the Green Party litrature I see no reference to a Whistle Blowers Charter. Without the Whistle Blowers we would not have uncovered the truths in our Government, Banks, State and Semi State Bodies.

Do you believe Whistle Blowers should be protected or hung out to dry?

Hi ,

The Green Party fully supports a whistleblowers charter that would protect people that bring vital information into the public domain regarding wrong doing; further to this, the Green Party has a Bill before the Oireachtas that would define a crime of ‘Economic Treason’. We propose mandatory prison sentences (10 years) and unlimited fines for those found guilty under the Act.
