I strongly believe that Cork East should be viewed from the point of view ensuring that we protect existing jobs within our region. The new Government must do everything they can to make life easier for employers by way of greater PRSI breaksa nd reducing the cost of employing people.
The Food Sector is vital to this region´s recovery. We have to ensure that the CAP budget of €1.3 billion is retained so that we can grow the food sector. I am positive about Co-Ops like Dairygold who appear to have a adopted a policy of going back to first principles will move to add value to commodities like Milk.
My job as a government TD if elected will be to facilitate and encourage such growth.
The €500 million jobs fund should trickle down to the SME sector who are b est placed to realise their potential in their respective markets.
There are other areas such as the Artisan Food Sector and Retail Sector which need support. We must ensure that retail planning guidelines reflect the needs of towns Like Cobh, Youghal, Midelton, Mallow, Fermoy and Mitchelstown to esnure that small retailers can compete against the larger multiples.
I also believe that there is significant potential for job creation in the tourist sector across East Cork which will have to be prioritised in the years ahead.
