Would you mind outlining your personal ( rather than party) efforts to create new jobs in the cork east area?

I strongly believe that Cork East should be viewed from the point of view ensuring that we protect existing jobs within our region. The new Government must do everything they can to make life easier for employers by way of greater PRSI breaksa nd reducing the cost of employing people.

The Food Sector is vital to this region´s recovery. We have to ensure that the CAP budget of €1.3 billion is retained so that we can grow the food sector. I am positive about Co-Ops like Dairygold who appear to have a adopted a policy of going back to first principles will move to add value to commodities like Milk.

My job as a government TD if elected will be to facilitate and encourage such growth.

The €500 million jobs fund should trickle down to the SME sector who are b est placed to realise their potential in their respective markets.

There are other areas such as the Artisan Food Sector and Retail Sector which need support. We must ensure that retail planning guidelines reflect the needs of towns Like Cobh, Youghal, Midelton, Mallow, Fermoy and Mitchelstown to esnure that small retailers can compete against the larger multiples.

I also believe that there is significant potential for job creation in the tourist sector across East Cork which will have to be prioritised in the years ahead.

At local level these are my priorities to encourage job creation

  • Supporting small business and getting lines of credit flowing.
  • Working to deliver an efficient broadband network.
  • Leaning heavily on state agencies including Enterprise Ireland and the IDA to attract new business and employers to the Cork East area.
  • Campaigning for effective use of zoned lands across the constituency that will lead to job creation.
  • Taking school prefabs and turning them into bricks and mortar.
  • Working to progress the development of industrial sites to create new jobs and stem the tide of emigration.
  • Leaning heavily on state agencies including Enterprise Ireland and the IDA to attract new business and employers to the area Building on the areas´ natural resources such as the River Blackwater and natural coastline to develop Cork East as a premier tourist destination.

Would you mind answering this question? l know that the reason that was given for cutting welfare was to encourage people back to work, but what about those that are on disability and will never work again because their health, is this fair and what do YOU personally plan on this subject?
